SOCAN Honors Sony/ATV Canada

Sony/ATV Music Publishing Canada was well represented at the recent 20th annual Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) awards, which honored songs and artists that received the greatest amount of radio airplay during 2009. Sony/ATV Canada writer/producer Jon Levine accepted a Pop/Rock Award for the #1 single “Don’t Call Me Baby,” which he co-wrote with fellow Sony/ATV Canada writer/artist Anjulie. Sony/ATV Nashville writer/artist Deric Ruttan was presented with a Country Music Award for his song “First Time in a Long Time.”

Sony/ATV Canada also received three SOCAN Classic awards for the Celine Dion’s “A New Day Has Come” (Moccio), and 54-40’s “Ocean Pearl” and “I Go Blind” (Osborne/Merritt/Johnson/Comparelli). Accepting the awards on behalf of Sony/ATV were Canadian President Gary Furniss and VP of Creative David Quilico.

Sony/ATV Canada artist/songwriter Lights and writer/producer Tawgs Salter were also honored in December with two #1 awards from SOCAN for their songs “Drive My Soul” and “Saviour.” Lights will be touring throughout the US and Europe in 2010 with Owl City in support of her recent album, “The Listening” (Warner).
