“Forever Dusty”
24 Sony/ATV Songs recorded by the late Dusty Springfield
WHY list these now?
1. Because there’s continued interest in Dusty, ten years after she lost her battle with cancer. She was the subject of a very successful stage musical in Australia which its producers are talking about bringing to London’s West End.
2. Mercury in the UK are planning a tribute album with artists such as Natasha Bedingfield, Colbie Caillat and Pixie Lott performing Dusty hits.
Known as the ‘white lady of soul’, Dusty loved R&B music and her idols included Aretha Franklin and the early Motown artists. She personally chose many of the songs she recorded and the following is a list of 24 Sony/ATV copyrights from her various singles and albums:
ALL CRIED OUT (Buddy Kaye/Philip Springer)

Then you touched my life just by holding my hand
Now I look in the mirror and see a brand new girl
I got a brand new walk, a brand new smile
Since I met you baby, I got a brand new style
Just because of you, boy, just because of you
Just because of you, boy, just because of you”
By Dusty Springfield (Atlantic/WMG: 1969) US #24 Pop
First recorded by Jerry Butler, this song was a highlight of the sessions which Dusty recorded in Philadelphia with Gamble & Huff producing.

I'm in the middle of nowhere
Getting nowhere with you”

Aretha’s sister Erma Franklin cut the original of this and then Janis Joplin sang it live with Big Brother & The Holding Company. Dusty selected it for a session she cut in London in August ’68 for which Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones wrote the chart.
