Anne Marie Almedal. The velvet voiced singer-songwriter extraordinaire whose words, music and presence astound many.
Ever since fronting the art-pop indie-heroes “Velvet Belly” throughout the 90´s, ice-cool electronica adventures in “AM and The UV”, numerous special guest appearances, recordings, performances, film & TV themes, and right up to her recent emergence as acoustic folk-pop chanteuse…it´s been a long, but worthwhile journey.
Of her recent solo debut “The Siren and The Sage” (released in 2007) Esquire Magazine had this to say… "Sweetness multiplied, sadness tripled, her music brings you a closer step to heaven...as fantastic as sharing the last cigarette with the one you love".
And in a poignant observation from Hector Zazou, the dearly departed French-Algerian composer & “new world” producer - touched by the qualities of Anne Marie´s music, sent an email with the subject: “Combination”, with the only words of the message reading…“a beautiful voice, a sensitive artist and a gorgeous woman: terrible and dangerous combination”. Praise indeed!
Since the release of her last album, Anne Marie and her delightful accompanists have performed their “naturalismo” folk-pop in and out of Norway, and look forward to present her much-anticipated follow-up release, scheduled for early next year – with special guest appearance on the recordings from the legendary bassist Danny Thompson (/Nick Drake/John Martyn/Talk Talk/Kate Bush)
Working closely with film composer and producer Nicholas Sillitoe, on both this new album and the last, Anne Marie has also recently managed to fly high in the charts, here in Scandinavia, with her theme song to the record-breaking Norwegian tv-drama series “Himmelblå”.
