The rise of Destiny's Child has been meteoric! They burst onto the scene as one of the most popular female R&B and Pop groups of the late '90s and have remained at the top of the charts ever since.

Destiny's Child began in Houston, TX, in 1991 when original members Beyoncé Knowles and LaTavia Roberson were just nine years old. Beyoncé's cousin Kelendria "Kelly" Rowland joined the group in 1992. Shortly thereafter they landed an appearance on Star Search, where they performed a rap song. The quartet's lineup was finalized when LeToya Luckett joined in 1993. They spent the next few years working their way up from the Houston club scene. Eventually the girls were opening for artists like SWV, Dru Hill, and Immature.

Destiny's Child made their recorded debut with 1997's "Killing Time" a song included on the soundtrack of the blockbuster Men in Black. Their now platinum self-titled debut album was released in early 1998. Its lead single, "No No No", was a smash hit, selling over a million copies and topping the Pop and R&B charts. Destiny's Child re-entered the studio to work on their next album, The Writing's on the Wall, that entered the charts at number six upon its release in 1999. The first single, "Bills, Bills, Bills", became the group's first number one pop hit (second R&B number one) and earned two Grammy nominations for Best R&B Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal and Best R&B Song. Their next single, "Say My Name", was another massive hit. The song hit number one on both the pop and R&B charts for three weeks each in early 2000. At the 2000 Grammy Awards special honors went to the group when "Say My Name" won two Grammys for Best R&B Song and Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and also received nominations for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin joined Knowles and Rowland in February 2000, replacing members Roberson and Luckett. Meanwhile, the next Destiny's Child single, "Jumpin' Jumpin'", hit the Top Ten, and The Writing's on the Wall went on to sell a whopping eight million copies. There was another adjustment in July 2000 when Farrah Franklin split with the group. Reduced to a trio, Destiny's Child was tapped to record the theme song for the film version of Charlie's Angels. Released as a single in October, "Independent Women, Pt. 1" raced up the charts and spent an astounding 11 weeks at number one. Destiny's Child was now a pop phenomenon, the biggest female R&B group on the scene.

Their third album, Survivor entered the charts at number one in the spring of 2001. The first two singles, "Survivor" and "Bootylicious", were predictably huge hits, with the latter becoming the group's fourth number one pop single. Destiny's Child took home the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 2001 for "Survivor". Toward the end of the year, the group released a holiday album, 8 Days of Christmas, and announced plans for a series of side projects, including solo albums from all three members (to be staggered over the next year and a half, so as to avoid competition). The trio reunited to release Destiny Fulfilled in November 2004. The album topped the charts with hit singles, "Lose My Breath", "Soldier", "Cater 2 U" and "Girl". Destiny Fulfilled was nominated for four Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for "Cater 2 U", Best R&B Song for "Cater 2 U", Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Soldier" - featuring T.I. & Lil Wayne. Destiny Fulfilled was certified triple platinum in early 2005 and has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.

The group released their greatest hits album, #1's in October 2005 just after they announced their decision to disband at the end of their world tour. The album, which featured three new songs including "Stand Up For Love", an anthem for World Children's Day, earned platinum status in early 2006. The girls remain close and continue to reunite for sporadic performances. On March 28th, 2006, Destiny's Child received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
